ACTING REVIEWS
Awake and Sing (Staged Reading)
A great performance was given by Andrew Rothkin as Moe Axelrod, the prosperous neighbor and unsuccessful suitor to Hennie. Rothkin’s physicality (handling the character’s war-injury with total commitment and consistency) along with his high-toned, thick-tongued Jewish accent made for a highly-compelling performance – mixing a broken heart with an agile mind. - Douglas N. Johnston for Drama-Queens.net, May 6, 2013 |
Blood Privilege
“Andrew Rothkin, who plays both her tyrannical husband of convenience, Ferenc Nadasdy and her beautician-physician Pataky…made such vastly different choices for each character I had to check my program to make sure I was watching the same man.” - Karin Crighton for HorrorTalk.com, February 15, 2013 Blood Privilege
“Remarkably played by Andrew Rothkin as both the villainous Ference Nadasdy and more caring Pataky, these characters are the strongest element on the stage, spinning the Countess in directions she may not have traveled without these two men.” - Shade Rupe for Fangoria.com (submitted but not published), February 2013 Norma Jeane, Enlightened (Staged Reading)
“In a nuanced performance by Andrew Rothkin as Jack Kennedy, we get the pragmatic, and at times, callous man who may truly care for Marilyn but would never risk his political career by having her as his wife. This is a refreshing change from the image of Kennedy as a prince of Camelot in American politics.” - Kristin O’Blessin for OuterStage, August 31, 2012 Meredith’s Ring
“Andrew Rothkin wrote the words meticulously and performs them himself. He is the rain that I speak of: the angry storm, the humorous sprinkle, and the melancholy dripping. This past Monday night he gave a tour-de-force performance of a man sharing his angst and joy. Effortlessly, he transitioned from his present self to past self and back again. “ - Christopher Sirota for OuterStage, February 28, 2012 Meredith’s Ring “Author and actor Andrew Rothkin takes us on a trip down memory lane that is simultaneously funny and heartbreaking as he transforms, before our eyes, from a bitter middle-aged divorcee into a geeky teen falling in love for the first time in Meredith’s Ring. … It was delightful watching these two performers bring all the extreme emotions of teenage love to life. …Mr. Rothkin walked an excellent line by showing us how bitterness is created when you mix sadness of reality and hope of something better.” - Kristin O’Blessin for Drama-Queens.net, March 2, 2012 Three Sisters
“Over all the cast performed well, but it was the brilliant Andrew Rothkin in the role of Andrei who stole the show. Completely believable and focused in every environment, Mr. Rothkin clearly conveys even the most subtle nuances of his character.” - Christopher Farr for Hi! Drama, June 21. 2005 The Tempest
“… Stephano (played by Andrew Rothkin) and Trinculo…were also very good.” - Mark for Hi! Drama, June 18, 2004 Psychodrama
“Psychodrama brings us the twists and turns (of power shifting between a man and a woman) and the greatest chemistry of the evening between actors Andrew Rothkin and Cameron Peterson. Rothkin plays the evil stalker of Peterson's protagonist. …The entire cast makes up a great acting company. “ - Sherry Braun for Stage Pages, January 2004 Psychodrama
“All of the performances were excellent but there were some standouts.… [T]he talented triple-threat (author, actor, director) Andrew Rothkin as Arthur is absolutely fabulous. It is clear that… these performers have a wide range of versatility.” - Glory Kadigan for Hi! Drama, October 12, 2003 Michael Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
“The play is about Mickie (Andrew Rothkin) who once was Michael -- until her sex-change operation…. Rothkin gives a believable performance as a truly noble heroine: loyal, nurturing and grounded.” - Sherry Braun for Stage Pages, April 2003
Fanny’s First Play “On the Westside Rep's postage stamp stage, Kathleen Powers directs her 10 member cast, most of whom play double roles, with an earnest energy. Her greatest achievement is in her casting of Andrew Rothkin in the play's pivotal roles of the servant Juggins and the young theatre critic Mr. Bannal. The young actor has the best roles in the play and makes the most of them, exhibiting restraint, an inner intelligence, and undeniable stage presence. He could well be a star-in-the-making.” - Barbara Siegel and Scott Siegel for Drama-Logue, September 1995. TestimonialsAndrew Rothkin is a gifted, sensitive, and generous actor who works with passion, love, and great creativity. He is not afraid to take risks in exploring the many facets of any given character, and he creates a strong sense of community and support in any ensemble that he works in. I love Andrew Rothkin!”
Elizabeth Browning, President of Joy Light Productions; Artistic Director of the Elizabeth Browning Studio “Andrew has disappeared into many characters right before my eyes. He slides into any role gracefully, and that takes more than talent to achieve; it takes many years of Mastering the Craft of the Soul. Andrew is a great example of a true artist at work. He is reminder to us all of a Hollywood & Broadway Era long gone where using your total true inner self on stage and film was born, where you master continuing disciplining oneself with years of training, as he's done. What stars where to us then, Andrew Rothkin is to us now. Even in his silent moments on stage, there are hundreds of words hitting you. Just sit, look and listen.” Ricardo Cordero, Actor, Director, President of Global Network Pictures “Andrew is a solid actor. He is willing to do the work it takes to delve deep into a role. When he emerges in performance, it may very well seem to the viewer that he has done no work at all as his discoveries have been expertly knitted into the very fabric of the moment in which he lives.” Rhonda Musak, Acting Coach, Art & Soul Acting "Have had the pleasure and privilege to work with Andrew Rothkin when I directed him in the original one-act play version of our current feature-film, entitled TUCHT; Andrew is the kind of Actor that's a Director's dream - keen instincts, professional, and very passionate; to this day (over 8 yrs. now), I've kept one of his brilliant ideas in relation to the lead-male character he played in that one-act, now a feature-length screenplay in pre-production... THANK YOU, Andrew!" Alex Molina, Artistic Director of ASAOPE Independent FilmWorks “Andrew Rothkin is a dedicated and smart artist who gives 100 % of his talent to any project he is associated with. Working with Andrew as an actor and writer has been a delightful and enjoyable experience. “ Joan Kane, Artistic Director, Ego Actus “Andrew Rothkin is a strong, versatile actor. He has appeared in my plays as a cerebral, malign devil and a weary, kind executive. I have the sense of having seen only a small part of his range and am eager to cast him again and to see him perform Williams, Shakespeare and Mamet.” Jonathan Wallace, Playwright/Producer, Howling Moon Cab Company "Andrew Rothkin is a wonderful craftsman and a joy to work with as an actor, writer and director. I'm very proud to have been his teacher and director. Don't we always have a certain investment and fondness for those with whom we work well and closely? However, he came to me with classical training and a solid method; and I've always found his open mind and curiosity satisfying to collaborate with. I recommend Andrew if you are looking for a passionate and dedicated artist." Steven Thornburg, Artistic Director of CalThor Productions “A smart and seasoned actor, Andrew utilizes both his excellently trained voice and his physical movement to exhibit tremendous degrees of variation, allowing him to create a wide range of complex characters. Andrew's stage presence is powerful and always draws an audience in.” Kara Raphaeli, Freelance Director “I recently had the pleasure of seeing Andrew Rothkin play the lead in a piece he wrote called Bubby's Shadow… What I found particularly interesting in the play was the performance of Andrew Rothkin. I have produced festivals in NYC for over 15 years now and I have seen Andrew play many roles. He particularly excelled in the psycho, slightly odd and raw characterizations. He has played to great effect everything from a murderer to a transsexual [for which he won a Best Actor award at the Spotlight On Festivals] and all have been wonderfully portrayed by him. What I most enjoyed about Bubby's Shadow is that the character he played could be you or me or anyone we see walking down the street. A slightly flawed, human individual. A far cry from his usual fair but equally as impressive as the others because of his deep character layering and development. You felt for this man… Andrew Rothkin is a fine actor who, like fine wine, gets better and better.” Frank Calo, Producer, Spotlight On Productions |
